What are subliminals? Subliminals (often shortened to 'subs') are a form of a subliminal messaging, or "hidden" messages, put in the background of media with the goal of bypassing the conscious mind in order to imbed itself straight into the subconscious, thus manifesting change in accordance with subconscious. The most common forms of subliminal messaging are repeated spoken words masked by other audio, written words or imagery flashed quickly and repeatedly on a screen, and words, imagery, or symbolism camouflaged within a visual stimulus. Subliminals, as referenced most commonly on YouTube, typically fall into the first category, though some may combine other methods with it for added effectiveness. Affirmations are recorded, sped up, and masked by music or ambience. Regarding subliminal messaging outside of this community, it can be seen in the day-to-day world by businesses and corporations, mass media, and other people in positions of power and influence without disclosure, oftentimes to get you into a specific mindset to consume a product, service, or piece of media or to subscribe to a certain mindset that benefits them in some way. Many commercials are examples of this. Within this community, however, the purpose is more often than not included in the title and/or description of the video or audio file, allowing you to use this technique to your advantage.
How do subliminals work? This is a metaphysical process that has either not been effectively studied at this time (perhaps due to the volatility of metaphysics or other more mechanical limitations) or that has research out there that has not yet revealed to the general public for whatever reason. In any case, I will share my understanding from my own research and experimentation in metaphysics. The subconscious, which is the part of the mind that is used in subliminal work, seems to have a direct link to the astral plane (the plane of existence where magick* happens) - that is to say, the subconscious seems to be the key to manifestation. In essence: What you believe, you become. Perhaps you have heard of it referred to as the "Law of Attraction." This line of thinking offers a very basic look at the process of manifestation, but it is a very good place to start if you are new to the idea. I will be going more into detail about this in my upcoming book, but if you'd like to get started with your own research and hop down your own rabbit hole, you can start with this CIA document (presented without annotation for your own interpretations and understandings).
(*I've written more in-depth about the connection between magick and subliminals here, for those who may be concerned.)
How are subliminals made? The simplest way to make a subliminal is to start by creating a list of affirmations using "I" pronouns in the present tense (ex: I am happy). Some people have also found success using past tense affirmations, but present tense is the most common to use for these sorts of subliminals. After you've created your list, you can either record yourself reading it out loud or run it through a text-to-speech program. Finally, to allow it to bypass the conscious mind, you want to set this new recording at a low volume and play it beneath your desired music or sound effects. This is essentially it when you boil it down to the bare basics. Some sub makers take it a step further by speeding up the affirmations, layering them on top of one another, adding frequencies, etc - but it varies from creator to creator what their preferred method of creation is. If you're interested in a more detailed look into my specific process, keep an eye out for my upcoming book. :)
How do I use subliminals? It is very simple. Play the video or audio at a gentle, comfortable volume - either through speakers or headphones - and go about your business. Listening while meditating, sleeping, or simply focusing on something else typically yields best results. It is alright if you "hear" the affirmations, as long as the volume is low enough that you don't consciously understand them. This way, the affirmations can bypass the conscious mind into the subconscious. I recommend repeating each subliminal you use about 3-10 times each time you use it - the more, the better - but it is also important to know your personal limits, and it is perfectly fine to take breaks, if necessary. Any form of manifestation is energy work, after all. :) These are just basic instructions. You may, of course, change this up however works best for you.
Is subliminal messaging evil? Like any tool, subliminal messaging can be used for many purposes. It is not inherently good or evil. Subliminal messaging can create positive, negative, or even neutral change in yourself and in the world around you, and most sub-makers (like myself) are seeking to make positive changes in the lives of their listeners. On the other hand, subliminal messaging as used in media, particularly in advertising and mass media, can often serve a much more nefarious purpose for the benefit of only the person pushing the programming. Though there are some who believe this is part of a larger agenda, this can be seen even at the surface-level with various imagery and word choice used to make us feel less valuable unless we spend money on a certain product or service. We see this across social media, across television, across the radio, and even in print advertisements out in public places. Being exposed to these kinds of messages targeting our self-worth over and over can definitely have a negative impact on the psyche. In fact, there are many subs out there that are created for the specific purpose of undoing years of this kind of negative programming. So again, it all depends on the purpose.
What is a subliminal flush? A flush is a type of subliminal that is intended to clear old, unwanted, and/or negative programming from your subconscious by means of subconscious command. This is good to do every so often if you are someone who spends a lot of time on or around media (mainstream music, TV, advertisements, etc) or even before switching to a new daily playlist (after you've gotten and noticed results). Clearing out blockages and negative programming not only helps to calm the mind, but paves the way for better, more fruitful results from subliminal or manifestation work. All my available flushes can be found here!
What is a subliminal booster? A booster is a type of subliminal that is filled with affirmations intended to enhance the effectiveness of your subliminal use in some way. They work by opening your subconscious to the idea of becoming more suggestible, accentuating your beliefs about the effectiveness of subliminals, and guiding your attention towards even the smallest results in order to help open your mind further to the potential success of your workings. All my available boosters can be found here!
What is a subliminal accelerator? An accelerator is a type of subliminal that, similarly to a booster, is intended to enhance the effectiveness of your subliminal use. Unlike a booster however, an accelerator's intention is focused specifically on the speed of results. The affirmations in an accelerator help to program your mind to perceive time in a dilated way which may result in a faster progression of results from your subliminal workings. All my available accelerators can be found here!
What is a subliminal bundle? Now, this one seems to have a couple of conflicting definitions within community, so I'll unpack the ones that I am familiar with for you. For some, a bundle is a playlist of subliminals designed to achieve a specific purpose. For others, a bundle is a collection of subliminals put into one video, usually by layering them on top of one another, to achieve a specific purpose. Previously, I had gone by the latter definition by combining various subliminals into single videos (sans layering), but when I had several people asking in the comments for the playlist link, I decided to start referring to bundles by the former definition. Be sure that if you are creating a layered or combined bundle to post publicly that you have gotten permission from the creator to do so. Subliminals, though simplistic in process, can take a lot of time and energy to make, and I've seen a lot of sub makers feeling awful when their work had been stolen and used without permission.
What if I am not getting any results? There are a lot of reasons you could be having trouble getting results. You could have conflicting beliefs holding you back. You could have an obsession that may be keeping you locked into these old systems. You may be overwhelmed by negative energy or entities. You may be receiving negative programming from the media and aren't even aware of it. In each of these cases, combating it can be a process. My general recommendation is a detox from mass and social media for at least a week alongside a dedicated flush subliminal or playlist. Alternatively, the issue could be that your subconscious is overwhelmed and your manifestation focus is scatter. Instead of funneling a lot of energy into one manifestation, your energy could be scattered amongst many goals, and thus the process may be significantly slowed. Try to stick to one topic per playlist for optimal results (if you are changing your appearance for example, only include subliminals related to that - even better if you were to focus on a single feature) Consider also the astrological and other large scale energies at play during the time you are trying to manifest. If those energies are at odds, focus on something more aligned or simply wait until the energies shift more in your favor. If you've already considered and optimized all of the above, perhaps the issue is simply that you aren't committing. You cannot expect to change years of programming in a single day. For most people, it requires earnest repetition. You may even be someone who could benefit from doing more hands-on energy alongside your subliminal work. Before you dismiss subliminals entirely, consider what other factors may be contributing to your perceived lack of results. And if you come to feel that subliminals really just aren't for you? That is perfectly fine. There are so many other wonderful manifestation methods out there for you to explore that may be more aligned with your particular preferred style of manifestation.
