The Problem at HandLately, I’ve seen a lot of community parroting in regards to the concept of “limiting beliefs”. Often, this parroting comes in the form of angry and holier-than-thou comments in response to subliminal creators discussing tips and advice for effectively utilizing subliminals, claiming that these things are simply limiting beliefs in need of immediate extermination from community discussion. “Subliminals will work no matter what,” they say. While this general idea may very well be the bottom line, a quick glance at the community paints a bit of a different picture - one of common struggles and common solutions, solutions of which are now given as a general rule of thumb for effective listening by subliminal creators. Truthfully, I think these people do feel that they are being helpful in leaving comments like these, even despite some of the harsher deliveries. After all, their ultimate goal is to get everyone on-board with how powerful they are. However, I do think that it is also worth considering the risk this runs of, ironically, creating limiting beliefs within individuals who do find difficulty manifesting instantaneously - which, thanks to a lot of the deeply-embedded programming instilled in us since a very young age, is most of us. This is okay, and these people can absolutely get to the point of instantaneous manifestation with just a little bit of effort to break past those barriers. The commonly-shared advice out there plays a key role in this process by rewiring the mindset and offering experiences and sensations to refer back to when manifesting independently. In all my time studying and practice with magick and energy work and manifestation, I have seen many a “failed” manifestor who were lead to believe, by those out there who were more experienced or by those who did indeed have the gift of instant success, that they should also be able to manifest instantly. In doing so, their efforts were rushed. They did not learn what energy feels like. They were not familiar with any of the theories seeking to unpack why things worked the way that they did. “Think about it, and it will be.” They followed that instruction to the letter - perhaps some even believing then, with great faith, that this would work out for them. When it didn’t, they would give up on the practice entirely, either thinking it to be a total sham or simply thinking they were incapable because they couldn’t manifest instantly like so many others seemed to be able to. This is my worry for the subliminal community when it comes to our delivery of concepts like the one discussed in this post. Tools and SupplementsI’d like to bring up another parallel with other “occult” practices. Many of the texts out there regarding magick that are intended for beginners will start you off with a handful of tools to be used in different ways that symbolize different things. If the book is a thorough one, it will also offer explanation along with these recommendations. This also goes for things like crystals and herbs and the like. While you are capable of magick without any of these tools at all, many of them offer their own unique energies and/or contain symbolism that is already programmed into the collective in such a way that it helps you to more easily tune into those particular energies. After developing an understanding and becoming energetically familiar with the tools, most practitioners will begin to form new correspondences based on their own interpretations and symbolism. Some have even decided to throw out the tools altogether. Regardless, these tools are where most of us had to begin to build the proper mindset to break down the programming and realize - truly realize - our potential as powerful creators within this realm. Think of it like handwriting practice in elementary school. In theory, you could absolutely write beautiful, legible letters right from the get-go - and perhaps there are some who do. Most of us, though, started by tracing letters on a page. The repetitive nature of this guided exercise allowed us to see what our letters should look like and to physically feel how it felt to write those letters. When we go to write those letters on our own, we know we are doing it correctly by how they look and how they feel to write. Energy work in any form is similar. Guidance and assistance helps us to learn what that manifestation process feels like so that the next time we go to manifest on our own, we know how to determine we are putting our focus and energy where it needs to be for the best possible end result. In the case of prior programming, we can think of it like trying to improve poor handwriting. If you’ve been writing sloppily for several years, that method of writing is in your muscle memory. To improve, many people print out tracing sheets or attempt to copy from references. Just as it took years to get you used to writing sloppily, it takes repetition to form these new penmanship habits. When we are constantly told that there is only one way for something to be, it becomes a part of our belief system. I should mention that this can also be true of people who present their tips and advice as if it is the only way of achieving manifestation. This is also counterproductive. Each and every one of us are on our own unique path with our own unique destinations along the way. While some of our paths may cross, ultimately, the methods that we choose to further us on those paths will vary from person to person, experience to experience. The advice that we give should be just that - advice. Addressing Specific StatementsI would like to now briefly address some of the more specific statements pertaining to pointing out limiting beliefs. Once again, I do think that all of these messages are coming from a good place, and if you are someone who finds value in sharing them, perhaps it just comes down to your delivery of them. “You don’t need to believe in subliminals!” No, you don’t - but it helps. If we don’t believe in subliminals - or more importantly, ourselves and our own ability to manifest - we are leaving room for doubt, and doubt has an unfortunate habit of breeding its own limiting beliefs within us. These beliefs can then begin to send out energetic signals that are in conflict with what you may be intending to manifest. Yes, you can manifest without belief, but if you find difficulty, a little clearing of the mind may be in order. “You don’t have to flush or get rid of blockages!” No, you don’t - but it helps. Much of the deeply-rooted programming within us, even from surface-level “innocent” enough advertisements, can leave us feeling powerless and inadequate. Again, these can stand as their own very limiting beliefs, sending out energetic signals that may conflict with what we are seeking to do. “You don’t need to feel positive!” No, you don’t - but it helps. For one, positivity gives way to a high vibrational state, which may affect the speed at which things manifest. Two, emotional energy is extremely powerful at subconsciously directing intention. Negative emotions driving a positive manifestation may result in unwanted outcomes. Many such experiences have been shared across various magickal communities. If you find that you are experiencing such a thing, perhaps you may want to consider taking breaks from subliminals on your bad days or even simply making efforts to turn things around by doing some sort of fun activity of preference that brings you joy. “You don’t need to listen more than once!” No, you don’t - but it helps. In most of us, the programming is long-term and the blockages are sturdy - and unless you are totally secluded from society and its creations or you are extremely well-versed in warding and staying disconnected from the media you consume, the potential reformation of these blockages is something to be aware of. Even I, despite being a fairly experienced practitioner, must regularly cleanse myself and my space, re-energize my wards, and maintain awareness of aspects of myself that could use a little extra attention. In the realm of subliminals, flushes and blockage removal boosters can help to counter some of that subconscious programming. As with the handwriting example from earlier in the post, repetition will be most effective for many. “You don’t need to stick to one goal at a time!” No, you don’t - but it helps. When I discuss this piece of advice, I often talk about overwhelming the subconscious. Let’s look at the realm of the physical. How many things can you do at once before you begin to feel stressed, overwhelmed, or tired? Do you also notice that, perhaps, the quality of the work declines in these situations? Similarly, when we are dividing our energetic attention - our focus - among many different goals at once, we are not giving as much energy to each individual goal as we could be. The result may be that your manifestations are progressing at a slower rate or that they aren’t manifesting as strongly as you’d like them to. Similarly, you may also find that your “energy” is being depleted too quickly - and just as under physical circumstances, you may begin to feel stressed, overwhelmed, or tired. Perhaps you are an excellent multitasker, and if so, that is a wonderful thing - but if not, this may be something to be aware of. “You don’t need breaks, water, or food!” No, you don’t - but it helps. Granted, if you’re like most of us, you need water and food to survive. That is a given. However, in reference to subliminals, it is sometimes necessary to rest and recharge. Subliminal work is a form of energy work. In energy work, energy seems to function similar to how it would function when performing physical tasks, slowly depleting as we dedicate it to various tasks. Many believe, in this process, that bits of energy are sent out into the universe to act as a sort of beacon, calling toward us the things we wish to manifest. As mentioned above, if your energy is depleted too quickly or for too long at one time without rest, you may begin to feel stressed, overwhelmed, or tired. Rest, sleep, water, and food are all things that work to replenish our energy reserves. Chocolate or sugary fruits are common recommendations for the energy-depleted. “You don’t need to be mindful of clashing!” No, you don’t - but it helps. How many of you have done something only to realize afterwards that things did not fall into place as you expected? The subconscious knows what you want, yes, but if there are any blanks to be filled in, rest assured your subconscious will do just that. I have found that manifestation tends to take the path of least resistance. This is why many magick practitioners will suggest that you be as clear as possible about your intention without being overly limiting. There is certainly a sweet spot. If your goal is to look like “half this-half that” but don’t have an image in mind, it is entirely possible for you to still be pleased with your results, but the more specific you are about your goals, the more information your subconscious will have, and the more specific your manifestations will be. In addition, there are some “half-and-halfs” that have the potential to cancel one another out altogether. If, for example, you are trying to manifest more money while, for whatever reason, trying to manifest less money, the half-and-half result may just be no change at all. These statements are true enough by themselves, but many of us find ourselves in positions where this sort of advice could only serve to make us more frustrated with our seeming inability to manifest. You don’t have to feel like a failure if you find yourself having difficulties due to the various circumstances, situations, or experiences within your life. You don’t even have to tick all of the boxes when it comes to tips and advice. What works for some may not work for you, and what works for you may not work for others. We all learn differently. We all grow differently. Find the methods that work for you, and don’t worry about the methods that don’t. :) Final ThoughtsA big problem within many facets of the spiritual community is individuals presenting things as 100% non-disputable facts, when really in the realm of the metaphysical, we are always learning and always growing. In spirituality, we are all students of the universe. Within the new age facet, we see this problem in what is commonly referred to as “false light” or even “new age deception” - wherein certain individuals parrot certain concepts as fact, and this leads to many being misled in ways that ultimately cause trouble within their own spiritual journey. In some cases, these things touted as fact come from people with a concerning agenda. In other cases, it seems that some things work for some but not others. We are quick to tell people how things are rather than to guide them to their own conclusions, and while this may come from a good place, it often causes its own set of problems - but that’s a topic worthy of its own post.
There is nothing wrong with saying, “All you need to make magick happen is you.” That statement is entirely true. When it becomes a problem is when it is used to chop down any sort of tips or advice others may have to offer for those on their own journey to discover that statement for themselves. Not everyone discussing the concept of limiting beliefs is doing this, mind you. I’ve seen plenty of wonderful, helpful posts and videos on the topic. Unfortunately, I’ve seen just as many, if not more, comments across the community that are. The bottom line, to those reading this post for guidance, is that what works for you works for you. If you have success with a method, no one can take that success away, no matter how much they may belittle you or claim that your methods are incorrect and useless. If you can manifest without any methods at all, that is a wonderful thing. Now that you’ve mastered this, there are many other things out there that you can give full attention to mastering. If, on the other hand, you find that methods are helpful, that is also a wonderful thing. You are learning. You are growing. You are moving forward.
